Metabo DS 200 Bench Grinder Review

Metabo DS 200 Bench Grinder Review

The Metabo DS 200 8-Inch Bench Grinder is a true high-quality product. It’s a bit heavy, yes, but even that isn’t much of a problem. In fact, because of its weight, there’s hardly any vibration while using it all and I didn’t even bother bolting it to my workbench. Whether I’m using it sharpen shovels or axes, using this unit has been a real pleasure and I’m hoping that it will remain that way for many years.

From top to bottom, you can see that the Metabo 8 inch bench grinder is a well-made product. Set up is also easy and it won’t take long for you to realize that the bench grinder comes to speed in no time. Though, you may want to be careful about the grinding wheels because they’ll remain turning for about three minutes even after shut-off.
Do note, that even if I said that setup is easy, assembling the eye shields and grinding platforms using the diagram isn’t easy.

The Metabo DS 200, though, is well worth the hassle as it’s one of the best grinders out there that’s sold to non-industrial users.

The dual push on/off button is a nice added feature. Aside from the different colors to help you tell which one is off or on, the off switch is slightly raised to make it easier to hit in case of an emergency. What’s even better is that the switch deactivates if there’s no power, so it’s impossible for the motor to turn on when plugged off.
Made of aluminium castings, the guards and side covers are as sturdy as they can get. Though, small, the included tool rests and the protective clear plastic shields are also quite durable.

As for the motor itself, it’s far more powerful than I ever imagined. I couldn’t even slow it down with all the grinding I did.

Initially, I mentioned that the grinding wheel will continue to spin even after shut-off and I was worried that this may damage the bearings. But, after a few uses, I realized that I need not worry because the bearings were great.

Despite being one of the more expensive grinders out there, this one has the features, build and quality to go with its price.

I myself use the grinder for various things and found it rendering most of my other grinders obsolete.
If I were to put everything in simple terms, I’d say that by buying the Metabo DS 200, you’ll get more than your money’s worth.

Expensive, yes, but with this investment, you won’t have to worry about a replacement unit for years or even a decade or so. The Metabo 8-inch DS 200 bench grinder is rated 5 stars out of 5!
